Financial Education for a New Generation
With an increase in personal bankruptcies and credit card debt and a decrease in savings, the need to teach personal finance to our youth is critical. The High School Financial Planning Program® (HSFPP) is a cost-free public service provided by the National Endowment for Financial Education® NEFE® and the New York Credit Union Foundation. The HSFPP is a non-commercial and flexible curriculum that has been proven in independent studies to change students’ knowledge, actions and self-confidence about managing their money. It can be implemented in a wide variety of settings from the traditional classroom to community youth programs.
Financial Maturity
When sound money habits are taught and learned early and reinforced often, over periods of time they become automatic and instinctive. In addition, these habits can return some pretty handsome dividends in the form of financially mature teens who are much more likely to develop into financially mature adults.
HSFPP Really Works
Started in 1984, the program has provided solid financial education to millions of students in tens of thousands of classrooms across the country. It was independently evaluated twice and shown to cause students to make positive changes in their financial behavior. In other words, it works.
