Mini-fundraising events and activities are a great way to encourage credit union employees and/or members to support youth financial education programs offered by the New York Credit Union Foundation (NYCUF). By making a donation of just $5 or less, they can make a powerful investment in financial education.
Our toolkit makes fundraising easy and effective:
1. Designate a credit union representative. E-mail us (link to diane.lavigna-wixted@cuany.org) the name and contact information of the representative who will coordinate the mini-fundraisers for your credit union.
2. Choose a fundraising theme from the templates below. Choose from several mini-fundraisers, including seasonal dress-down days for staff, and raffles and candy sales for staff and members. If you prefer, implement your own unique fundraiser(s).
Dress down days for staff*
- October: Scare up some cash for financial education!
- November: Don’t be a turkey… support financial education!
- December: Give the gift of financial education.
- March: Give some green for financial education!
- April: Make a difference during Financial Literacy Month! or Celebrate Youth Week in jeans!
Raffles or candy sales for staff and members*
- Vacation day: Feel like a day off?
- 50/50: You could be a winner!
- Candy sales: Supporting financial education is sweeter than ever.
Staff/member buttons
*Determine the donation amount(s) you think appropriate for your staff and members. Raffles and candy sales may be held anytime during the year.
3. Customize your flyer. Each mini-fundraiser has a pre-designed flyer that you can customize and distribute at your branch(es). Simply fill-in the designated areas with your credit union information and print.
4. Print staff/member buttons. Non-customizable staff and member button graphics are available. Open the graphic images above and save to your desk top as a jpeg file, then drop the graphic into a template for 2.5” diameter labels.
5. Consider a credit union match. For an extra incentive, consider matching employee and/or member contributions up to a certain amount. Just be sure to add the following language to the flyer: “Every donation counts! [XYZ] Credit Union will match each donation, up to $[XXX].”
6. Take pictures. Be sure to take a few high resolution (min. 300 dpi) photos of your fundraiser, the raffle winner, a member purchasing candy, etc. E-mail your photo(s) to diane.lavigna-wixted@cuany.org.
7. Distribute collected donations. Mail a check payable to the New York Credit Union Foundation to P.O. Box 15118, Albany, NY 12212-5118 or transfer funds from your Alloya Corporate FCU account to the Credit Union Association of New York’s Member Services deposit account #221306509 share type 060, using Alloya Corporate FCU’s Premier View or by calling Alloya’s Member Services Department at (800) 342-4328.
9. Receive recognition! During the Association’s 2012 Convention in Lake George (June 7-10), we will announce the total amount raised and recognize all participating credit union.
