Executive Director of NYCUF Quoted in Governor’s Release

(May 22 - Albany, NY) – Diane LaVigna-Wixted, executive director of the New York Credit Union Foundation was quoted in a press announcement released by Governor David A. Paterson yesterday. The release introduced legislation that would strengthen New York State’s identity theft laws.

The bill would restrict the ability of employers to use an employee’s personal information, including a full social security number, file the information in a non-secured area and more.*

"We at the New York Credit Union Foundation have been working hard, with the Consumer Protection Board and members of the New York State Legislature, to inform credit union members about the dangers of identity theft. We commend Governor Paterson for stepping up to the plate and advancing greater protections for all of us," said Wixted in support of the bill.

Recognizing the important implications identify theft has for all consumers and the general public, the Foundation has just produced of series of radio and television public service announcements and an educational 12 minute video for web streaming on its prevention, which will debut this Fall.

The New York Credit Union Foundation serves those who help improve the financial literacy and independence of New Yorkers. For more information about the Foundation, visit www.nycuf.org
