Three Join NYCUF’s Board of Trustees

(May 28 - Albany, NY) – The New York Credit Union Foundation (NYCUF) has appointed three new individuals to its Board of Trustees, effective immediately. Joining are Jeff Davenport, sales manager, CUNA Mutual Group; Shirley Jenkins, board member, Municipal CU and Christine Peters, CEO, Family First of NY FCU.

Davenport has been CUNA Mutual Group’s sales manager of the East Region from 2001 – present. He is currently ranked the number two sales manager in the country. Davenport previously worked for County FCU in Maine and climbed his way up the ranks to president/CEO in 1999. He has a master’s degree in business management graduating with honors from Husson College in Maine and has been working for credit unions for the last 11 years. Before working for credit unions, Davenport worked a total of nine years at both Fleet Bank and Key Bank in Maine, mostly as a branch manager. He is currently on the board of the Massachusetts Share Insurance Corporation.

Peters served as CFO of Family First of NY for eight years prior to being named CEO in January 2006. In addition to over 14 years in the credit union industry, she has also worked at Price Waterhouse and Blue Cross and Blue Shield. Peters holds both Certified Public Accountant and Certified Internal Auditor designations, along with the Certified Chief Executive designation that she earned by completing the Credit Union Executive Society CEO Institute program. She is the current chair of the finance committee for the Eastside YMCA board of managers and an active member of the Rochester Women’s Network and CEO Fellows Group.

Family First of NY FCU is located in Rochester, NY. The credit union serves more than 12,000 members and holds in excess of $102 million in assets. Family First is a Foundation member, promotes National Endowment for Financial Education and was a LifeSmarts team sponsor.

Jenkins, a member of Municipal CU’s board of directors since 1983, has the distinction of becoming the first female board president in the history of Municipal CU. She currently serves as their legislative chair and is in constant contact with our legislative leaders concerning credit union issues. In 2007, Jenkins was appointed to the newly formed National Directors Advisory Panel. In 2005, she was inducted into the New York State credit union "Hall of Fame." Jenkins is a member of the New York State Black Women’s Political Caucus and a founding member of the African-American Credit Union Coalition. Always concerned with educating our youth, she strongly urged her fellow directors to develop youth programs (a pilot was started in 1997 at PS 90 Queens).

Municipal CU, based in New York City, is a $2 million investor (Chairman’s Club level) in the Foundation’s Community Investment Fund and a Brass Student Program supporter. The credit union has more than $1.3 billion in assets and serves almost 300,000 members.
