Foundation’s Financial Ed Specialist Recognized by BTANYS

(October 23 - Albany, NY) – Tony Schilling, financial education specialist for the New York Credit Union Foundation, has received the Business Teachers Association of New York State’s (BTANYS) 2008 Hobart H. Conover Friend of Business Education Award for supporting business and marketing education in New York schools..

The award was presented to Schilling at BTANYS’ Fall Conference last week in Binghamton.

The Hobart H. Conover Friend of Business Education Award recognizes an individual or organization outside the field of business education for meritorious contribution to the improvement, promotion, development and progress of business education.

Schilling was honored for his contributions to the field of business education, which encompassed a 21-year career as a member of the New York State Education Department and his promotion this past year of the Foundation’s financial literacy programs to business teachers across the state.

In keeping with it’s goal of promoting financial literacy and independence, the Foundation encourages the use of the National Endowment for Financial Education’s® (NEFE) 2008 High School Financial Planning Program® (HSFPP), a free-to-high schools resource that helps increase financial literacy among  New York’s young people; serves as the statewide coordinator of LifeSmarts: The Ultimate Consumer Challenge for students’ grades 6-12; and partners with New York credit unions and brass|Media Inc. to distribute the student edition of brass|MAGAZINE, a financial literacy tool, to high school classrooms across the state.

“It was an honor to receive this award in recognition of my prior years of service in the education system and my current position with the Foundation, from which I am able to help deliver free financial literacy resources to New York communities,” said Schilling. “In all sincerity though, I believe I received much more over the years from those efforts than what I have given.”

The New York Credit Union Foundation works to help improve the financial literacy and independence of New Yorkers. For more information about the Foundation, visit www.nycuf.org.
