NY CU Foundation Announces New Officers

(October 26 - Albany, NY) – The New York Credit Union Foundation, the charitable arm of the New York State Credit Union League (NYSCUL), elected a new slate of officers at its October 11 board meeting.

The new chair of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees is Nancy Kasprzak-Whitmore, president/CEO, Niagara County FCU. John Savelli, president/CEO, GHS FCU and Brian Clarke, CFO, Bethpage FCU were elected vice chair and treasurer/secretary, respectively.

"I am very excited to be able to serve as chair of the Foundation’s Board of Trustees," said Kasprzak-Whitmore. "The Foundation has been making great progress promoting youth financial education in New York State. As a result, New York’s credit union community has been able to reach hundreds of thousands of individuals through sponsorship and coordination of the NEFE High School Financial Planning Program, the brass|STUDENT PROGRAM, the statewide LifeSmarts competition, and Kid’s Cash Kit and Caboodle."

In addition, the Foundation has significantly increased its support to credit unions through several grant making programs, a small credit union development initiative, and REAL Solutions.

Kasprzak-Whitmore also stated that the Foundation wouldn’t be where it is today without the leadership and guidance of former chair Jim Mack., manager, St. Clare’s Hospital EFCU, who served in that position for the past 14 years.

Mack was instrumental in supporting and growing the Community Investment Fund and coordinating grant disbursements of more than $1 million to those affected by September 11, 2001.

"We are very fortunate to have Nancy, John and Brian as part of the Foundation’s leadership," said Diane LaVigna-Wixted, executive director of the Foundation "Their vision and experience will help the Foundation advance and expand its financial educational goals."

LaVigna-Wixted also extended special thanks on behalf of the group to their outgoing officers: previously mentioned Chair Jim Mack; Vice Chair Art Field, president/CEO, First Heritage FCU; and Treasurer/Secretary Michael Lotz, operations manager, British Airways EFCU, all of whom will remain on the board.

Rounding out the Foundation’s Board of Trustees are: Linda Bourgeois, CEO, UFirst FCU; John C. Gibardi, president/CEO, Entertainment Industries FCU; Gerard Herrling, VP, Operations, Municipal CU; Irvin N. Hilts, III, EVP, DVP Sales, CUNA Mutual Group; William J. Mellin, president/CEO, New York State Credit Union League; Vicki O’Neill, president/CEO, ACMG FCU; John Prumo, president/CEO, GPO FCU; Bruno Sementilli, president/CEO, Quorum FCU; James Stracuzzi, president/CEO CCSD FCU; and Dirck C. Van Deusen, SVP, Members United Corporate FCU.
