Business Education Award Goes to CU Foundation

Diane LaVigna-Wixted(November 15 - Albany, NY) – The New York Credit Union Foundation, under the leadership of its executive director, Diane LaVigna-Wixted, has received the 2007 Hobart H. Conover Friend of Business Education Award for supporting business and marketing education in New York schools.

The Business Teachers Association of New York State presented LaVigna-Wixted with the award during their Fall Conference last month in Albany.

The award recognizes an individual or organization outside the field of business education for meritorious contribution to the improvement, promotion, development and progress of business education.

The Foundation and LaVigna-Wixted were honored for their work with the National Endowment for Financial Education’s® (NEFE) 2007 High School Financial Planning Program® (HSFPP), which helps increase financial literacy among New York’s young people.

They were also recognized for being the statewide coordinator of LifeSmarts … The Ultimate Consumer Challenge for students’ grades 9-12 and for partnering with New York credit unions and brass|Media Inc. to distribute the student edition of brass|MAGAZINE, a financial literacy tool, to high school classrooms across the state.

"I was pleased to accept the award on behalf of the credit unions that work with the Foundation to deliver these free resources to the communities they serve," said LaVigna-Wixted.

"This demonstrates that the New York State credit union movement is dedicated to fulfilling its social mission of providing financial education," added William J. Mellin, president/CEO of the New York State Credit Union League and a member of the Foundation’s board of trustees.
